Hi there, we're making a new game! šŸ‘‹

Hey there! Iā€™m Victor, creator of Just Keep Running, and Iā€™m making a new game for my high school diploma project!

Whatā€™s it about?

The gameā€™s currently nicknamed "Project T-1000", but that will change eventually to avoid obvious legal issues.

Project T-1000 is a 2D Top-down action and stealth game where the player takes control of a character that is similar to the, well, T-1000 Terminator. Youā€™re made of liquid metal, and you can use it to create weapons, camouflage yourself into the environment, take the form of others, multitask, etc. This obviously costs some of your metal, which regenerates with time.

However, that same metal is ALSO your health. And itā€™s limited.

So, the game has an interesting resource management challenge going on. You can choose to play loudly or stealthily, but no matter what, you have to make sure that you use your metal strategically and wisely since if you use up too much, youā€™ll potentially meet an embarrassing death.

Howā€™s development going?

Debug Scene in Godot

The focus currently is getting all gameplay functionality done and nailing down a good art style. We arenā€™t super deep into development yet, but we've tried to plan this out as well as we can, and progress has been good so far!

Weā€™ve got a player character, the basic functionality of the Metal System is in place, AND you can press a button!

WOW!

The game is currently being developed in Godot, which is a new engine weā€™re exploring. I initially started development in Unity, but due to the ridiculous initial announcement of their ā€œRuntime Feeā€, I thought it was about time to branch out into new engines. Iā€™ve wanted to learn to use Godot for a while, so I thought ā€œNowā€™s the time.ā€

Story meeting, discussing the plot leading up to the events of the game.

Due to the success of the announcement on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, this game has now taken priority over JKR at the moment. I even rushed a meeting my friends and I scheduled to talk about the plot of the game to last Sunday, and weā€™ve got some interesting ideas for how the story should go! šŸ˜

If all goes well during development, you should eventually be able to play a demo of the game once itā€™s all finished!

Iā€™ll try to write up a Devlog and document the game's development process as often as I can, so follow us if you wanna come along the ride!
