What’s Cookin'? #4 - We’re back on Itch! + “Upgrades Update” soon to be playtested 😀
Good morning! (if you’re living in Europe, otherwise good whatever time of the day it is for you!)
If you’re reading on Itch.io, welcome back to our game! We’ll explain a bit about why our game just kinda disappeared for a bit, plus some more fun stuff related to Just Keep Running. Come along!
We’re back on Itch.io!
Stats go brrrrrr
Or more accurately, we are now indexed again on Itch, aka if you search up “Just Keep Running” in Itch’s search bar, you’ll ACTUALLY find the game.
One of the reasons why your game might not be indexed is that you’re selling a project for the first time. This is to review new sellers before their projects become eligible for indexing, though what their process is isn’t super obvious. Probably to a broad extent “Is this a scam or malicious in any other way?”
This doesn’t prevent people from accessing the game if they have a direct link to the game page, but the game itself and its related devlogs are just essentially non-existent on any other Itch-related page.
Getting indexed on Search & Browse: Why isn’t my project showing up? - itch.io
It took a little longer than we wanted because we have some neat stuff we wanna share, so we contacted them. A few days later, we’re back! Cool 👍
The “Upgrades Update” is being playtested!
In-game footage of new Upgrade System in place, work in progress
The Upgrade System is almost here, we just need to do some playtesting and polishing before we can go ahead and release it for y’all to enjoy 🥳
Along with Upgrades, we’ll have some other QoL improvements and adjustments to more clearly communicate certain in-game inputs, such as physical buttons in the game world.
Stay tuned, we expect to be able to release the update by some point next week, in time for Summer Vacation!
An in-depth Game Design Article coming soon…
I always like to find time to write down any of my game design processes, and I’ve kept myself busy writing about how I tried to adjust my game to be more accessible to speedrunning, no matter what skill ceiling you have.
It’s titled “No Time to Waste: How I (hopefully) Optimized My Game for Speedrunning”, and it should be published by some point this weekend :D
Just a friendly reminder that if you like the game or have any useful feedback, drop a review or rating wherever you get the game, or just share the game around! It’s a small gesture, but it does make a huge difference and makes us very giddy no matter if it’s positive or constructive criticism. 😁
We welcome anyone to upload or stream their gameplay of Just Keep Running, and feel free to share that gameplay with us if you so wish!
While you wait for the update to come out, feel free to check out Version 1.1.2 right here! You can also follow us on our socials!
